NRDC fights Bush administration

February 5th, 2008

The NRDC put out a press release on Tuesday concerning a law suit they filed under the freedom of information act against the Bush administration.  The group charges that the government is purposely covering up research by the Minerals Management Service finding the dangers of allowing drilling in the Arctic Ocean.

“This opposition has highlighted that, among other concerns, there are no methods proven effective for cleaning up oil spills in the Arctic Ocean. This is especially troubling because the federal Minerals Management Service admits that oil spills are likely in the Chukchi Sea if it is opened to oil and gas development.”

The NRDC would like to protect the habitats of polar bears, endangered bowhead whales, gray whales, Pacific walrus, seals, threatened eider, and other marine birds and fish.

    Hey Angela!

Sorry this comment is a little late — an extremely delayed flight set me back in both health and work. Anyway, just a few thoughts about your blog.

First, absolutely LOVE your theme. Totally adorable.

One post I really thought was cool was the one on Feb. 2 about oil drilling and animals. Nice use of image, link, etc., and you did a good job highlighting the news and including a bit of commentary.

One post I thought could use some work was the “Polar Bear Info” post on Feb. 5. The information was interesting, but it wasn’t clear why you were providing it. Maybe next time you could start by saying, “Sea World has a great Web site with information about different animals. Here’s some cool stuff I just learned about polar bears.” That way, you’re clearly highlighting a cool new media resource instead of just talking about polar bears.

Overall, I’m a little unclear about what your theme is. Protecting natural habitats of animals? Endangered species? Scientific research? It might help to have an explanatory line or two at the top of the page, or an “About This Site” page.

But other than that, I think it’s looking pretty nice. Keep it up!

    Anna
