Who is in this community
The community is pretty diverse in both age (students and parents) and occupation (parents who home school and research professors).
Based on the information gleaned from related web sites, site trafficking statistics from Google analytics and Feedburner, and my own experience with the behavior and biology research, I believe that the following groups would be most interested in the subject matter covered by behaviorandbiology.com:
- Parents- One visitor who home schooled her children used the website to develop a lesson plan based on the animal facts in a particular post and the related animal biology posts.
- Pet owners - People who own pets have a general interest in understanding more about what their pet’s behavior might mean and are interested in tips for training their pets. This specific interest can also translate to a more general interest in how exotic animals behave.
- Animal lovers - There is an audience of people who like to watch animal planet and the discovery channel to learn about unique animals and new research on animal behavior and biology.
- Conservationists: People who are passionate about conserving animals and their habitat and who support research to help them better achieve these goals.
- Teachers and professors- People with a general interest in science and who are interested in learning about scientific advancements outside their specific discipline.
- Members of animal behavior societies and zoologists
- Students - veterinary students or biology students
This Web site seeks to cover new and interesting research in the areas of animal behavior and biology, so prime potential audience members could be from any country, not just the United States. I have covered events in Africa and Canada and the hits to the website are from more than 10 different countries.
- I intiatially tried to include topics on using animals in research that is not for the purpose of learning more about that specific animal, but to further our understanding of human biology. I think to narrow the focus of this blog and to better serve the audience, I will not continue posting about animal models to advance understanding of human biology without a direct purpose of learning more about the model animal.
- I also will limit the posts on policy and habitat protection, unless it can be related to current research on animal in the threatened habitat to contextualize the behavior or biology research.
